12×36 Float Mounted MetalPrint

I ordered a 12×36 float mounted metalprint from SmugMug last Monday. It shipped from California the next day via UPS ground and arrived today (the following Monday). That is incredibly fast order processing! I could have gotten it here much sooner if I wanted to pay for jet fuel instead of diesel.  🙂

The mounted metalprint really looks awesome on the wall. It’s printed on ~1/8″ aluminum with rounded corners and a gloss finish, it sort of floats about 3/4″ off the wall. It was hard to take a photo of it without the flash reflecting, but it doesn’t reflect the lights in the room as you can see. This is what the mount on the back looks like: http://www.smugmug.com/prints/metalprints Here is the original photo:

I also ordered the same 12×36 image printed on Kodak Endura Professional Metallic paper. It also looks amazing. It’s hard to describe what it looks like or show a photo of it. It has a metallic sheen, sort of silvery/shimmery, but it’s not glossy or reflective. Almost like looking at a holograph, but not as shiny. It has a lot more depth than paper, slightly pearlescent, nearly a 3D effect. It definitely has a WOW factor! I’m ordering more panoramics on the metallic paper now that I know I like it. They are a lot cheaper than the mounted metalprints, but they don’t float off the wall of course.

SmugMug has been a great company to partner with. They continue to amaze me with their quality and ideas for new products. Their new panoramic choices are outstanding additions!
